The hazcat kit (Haztech Systems) is a very effective chemical classification system used by first responders throughout the country. This program introduces the student to the algorithms used to determine which family an unknown chemical belongs to. The class is based on hands-on use of the hazcat kit. Students are placed in small groups and are asked to identify 15-30 unknown substances throughout the week. The unknown liquid and unknown solid flow charts are covered in detail. Several other tests are covered in passing. Mixtures are not covered in this course.
